Swelling in the body

Swelling in a body happens from inflammation or injury. It can impact a small area or the entire body. Pregnancy, medications, infections, and several medical issues can lead to edema. When your small blood vessels leak fluid into nearby tissues, edema occurs.

External swelling can be due to insect bites, illnesses, or injuries. Internal swelling is often a side effect of a medication or the result of a serious injury.

Treatment

Treatment is based upon the cause of the swelling. If a tumor or abscess is causing the swelling, surgery is needed to remove it.

Aggressive treatment can be ordered by your doctor like chemotherapy or radiation, to shrink the tumors if the growth cannot be surgically removed because of its size or location.
