Painful Limp

A type of asymmetric abnormality of the gait is known as limp. Limping may occur because of weakness, pain, imbalance in neuromuscular, or a skeletal deformity.

Physical trauma is one of the most usual causes of a painful limp however, in the absence of trauma, other causes, like slipped capital femoral epiphysis or septic arthritis may be present.

Treatment will be based upon the cause of the limping. If your child is suffering from sprained muscle or joint, try to rest the foot or leg, by treating the injury with ice.

To manage the pain and swelling your doctor may suggest giving your child ibuprofen. Support bandages or an air cast can reduce the swelling.
